We Sharpen Knives!!  With 50 years in business, the staff at Northwestern Cutlery are truly experts in the art and science of knife sharpening. Fine cutlery can be easily maintained with the proper use of sharpening steels and stones but only for a period of time. In order to ensure a lifetime of quality performance in your knife, professional sharpening is also highly recommended.  Our experts will sharpen your knife by hand on a water grindstone - restoring it's edge, repairing small chips, or minor broken tips. Your knives will be returned to you sharpened and sheathed. A sharp knife requires less pressure when using, therefore reducing the chance of it to slip causing injury - making it safer to use.  We also sharpen tools, pocket knives, paper cutter blades, most scissors, and gardening equipment. When sending us your knives please also fill-out and enclose the Sharpening Request Form or call us toll-free for more information: 1-888-248-4449.

                 Sharpening Tips
"A sharp knife is a safe knife!!"
Steps when using a stone
1. Place knife blade diagonally across stone and tilt heal of      blade at a 20 degree angle to meet factory bevel.
2. Holding wrist rigid, draw across and down from heel to the tip of knife, utilizing complete surface of the stone.
3. Alternating sides will sharpen blade evenly.

Note: Do not be overly concerned about the grinding angle, but do control the consistency of the angle throughout the sharpening.

Steps to properly sharpen using a steel
1. Vertically hold the sharpening steel firmly in your left hand and the knife with your right hand. (Lefties simply do the opposite.)
2. Hold the knife at about a 20 degree angle, then with slight pressure against the steel, draw the blade the full length of the steel in an arching motion from bolster (back wide part of the knife) to the point.
3. Alternate sides to ensure sharpening evenly. Never stroke each side more than once in succession.
4. Repeat this process approximately 6-8 times.
